Late comedy icon Catherine O'Hara is making one final on-screen appearance in her longtime friend Martin Short’s upcoming documentary Marty, Life Is Short, offering fans an emotional posthumous glimpse of the beloved actress months after her death.
The documentary, which premieres May 12, features pre-recorded interview footage and intimate archival moments capturing O’Hara’s decades-long friendship with Short.
In newly released teaser footage, O’Hara warmly praises Short’s improvisational brilliance, saying he could “improvise to eternity,” while another scene shows the pair sharing a lighthearted exchange as Short jokingly compliments her Home Alone performance.
The inclusion of the late actress has already struck a chord with fans still mourning her sudden January passing.
Online reaction in film communities described the footage as both “devastating” and “a gift,” with many viewers saying they did not expect to see new material from O’Hara so soon after her death.
Directed by Lawrence Kasdan, the documentary blends never-before-seen home videos, career highlights and interviews with some of Short’s closest collaborators to chronicle the comedian’s personal and professional life.
O’Hara, who first met Short during Toronto’s improv comedy scene in the 1970s, remained one of his closest friends for decades.
