Three dead, one survives in ‘grisly’ family attack in Sydney suburb
The suspect is believed to be the son and brother of the victims
A 32-year-old man has been charged with the alleged murder of three members of his family in what police have described as a “grisly crime scene” at a home in Sydney, Australia.
Emergency services were called to a property in Rosemeadow, in Sydney’s southwest, at around 1:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, May 3, after reports of a violent domestic incident involving multiple family members.
According to the New South Wales Police, officers arrived to find the bodies of a 65-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man inside the home.
A 64-year-old man was found seriously injured and later died in hospital from severe head injuries.
A fourth victim, a 30-year-old man, survived the attack after managing to contact emergency services during the incident.
Police later arrested a 32-year-old man after a silver sedan arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m. He has since been charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The suspect has been identified as Jacky Feng, who is believed to be the son and brother of the victims, according to local media reports, including 7NEWS Australia.
The deceased victims have been identified as his parents, Zhou Chao Feng and Ruvena Lam, and his brother Justin Feng.
Investigators said they believe “more than one style of weapon” may have been used in the attack, including a bladed weapon.
Campbelltown City Police Area Command Superintendent Grant Healey said officers were confronted with a deeply disturbing scene upon arrival.
“A 65-year-old woman was the first police encountered, and they started first aid,” Healey said.
He added that officers later discovered the 64-year-old man still alive inside the home, while the third victim was found deceased in a separate structure on the property.
Authorities said the surviving 30-year-old family member made a desperate call for help during the incident.
Police also confirmed there was no prior record of domestic violence involving the family.
“This family isn’t very well known to police at all,” Healey said. “It was a very tragic incident, but there was no way for us to predict this.”
The investigation is being led by the Campbelltown City Police Area Command, with support from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
The suspect has been refused bail and is due to appear in court on Monday, May 4.
