French national arrested for alleged sexual assault on Swiss Air flight to Miami
Guillaume Mattler allegedly assaulted a sleeping woman during a flight from Zurich to Miami
Guillaume Sebastien Roger Mattler, a 48-year-old resident of France, has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault on a Swiss International Air Lines flight from Zurich to Miami.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday, Mattler was seated in the first-class cabin, when he reportedly targeted an unidentified 29-year-old woman.
Witnesses, including a flight attendant, observed Mattler allegedly touching the sleeping victim in an inappropriate and escalating manner.
The complaint details disturbing eyewitness accounts, including one passenger who described Mattler moving his hand in a "submarine" motion toward the victim.
A flight attendant eventually intervened after observing Mattler making a "scooping or rubbing motion" on the woman's crotch while she remained asleep. Following the intervention, Mattler was moved to the economy section of the aircraft.
However, when later escorted back to retrieve his belongings, he allegedly attempted to pass the victim a note that read: "You look beautiful when you are sleeping."
Upon arrival in Miami, Mattler was processed through immigration and interviewed by authorities. While he initially denied the allegations, the complaint states that he later admitted to the contact after learning of multiple witnesses, reportedly telling officials "that he did not think it was such a big deal."
As of Sunday, Mattler remains in custody at the Federal Detention Centre in Miami. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding passenger safety and the legal challenges associated with prosecuting crimes committed in international airspace during trans-Atlantic travel.
