The winners of the 2026 King’s Awards for Enterprise have been announced, with a total of 186 accolades distributed.

These awards spotlight remarkable businesses that showcase significant accomplishments across various sectors of the UK's economy.

The 2026 awards signify a notable milestone for the initiative, celebrating 60 years since the initial awards in 1966.

Established in 1965, the program has highlighted over 8,000 exceptional British businesses throughout its existence.

The selection process includes a thorough evaluation by experts from within industries, academic circles, the voluntary sector, and senior Whitehall advisors, concluding with the King approving the final decisions based on the Prime Minister's recommendation.

What were once known as the Queen's Awards for Enterprise were renamed four years ago after King Charles III's rise to the throne.

This change manifests the King's commitment to honoring the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II while persistently applauding British commercial excellence.

These esteemed yearly recognitions commend UK and Channel Islands businesses for their key role in fostering economic advancement and enhancing quality of life.

In Scotland, eight businesses have been recognized in this year's King's Awards for Enterprise, including Walker's Shortbread and the Edinburgh Remakery among today's honorees.

The comprehensive list of Scottish awardees features Maritime Developments from Aberdeen, Terumo Aortic located in Renfrewshire, Clarus Networks in West Lothian, Exceed (XCD) Holdings from Aberdeenshire, the Caledonian Tree Company operating in Midlothian, and McKerr Farming situated in South Lanarkshire.

The selection process includes a thorough evaluation by experts from within industries, academic circles, the voluntary sector, and senior Whitehall advisors, concluding with the King approving the final decisions based on the Prime Minister's recommendation.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary and adapt the program to contemporary business trends, organisers have introduced a new category: the King's Award for Enterprise - Young Founder.

Originating from the Department for Business and Trade's small business strategy, this new category will honor entrepreneurs aged 18 to 30 who actively manage their businesses and stimulate growth opportunities.

Across the nation, 186 awards have been granted this year, with the Bristol-based company Tailfin earning recognition in two distinct categories.

These honors cover a multitude of industries, with 76 companies being commended for international trade, 52 for innovation, 36 for sustainability, and 22 for advancing opportunity through social mobility efforts.

This year's awards were predominantly won by small and medium-sized enterprises, securing 164 of the 186 awards, which represents 89 percent of the total.

Among these, 24 awards went to micro-businesses employing ten or fewer people.

Blair McDougall, minister for small businesses and economic transformation, stated: "A hearty congratulations to all businesses honored this year, showing once more the pinnacle of British brilliance in innovation and talent."

“These awards demonstrate that across the UK, small businesses are thriving, expanding, and succeeding, and it’s fitting to celebrate these accomplishments."

Throughout the year, lord lieutenants will deliver the honors to awardees, while a representative from each recognised company will be invited to a royal reception.
