‘The Book Of Mormon’ Broadway performances cancelled until May 17 due to fire

Producers of Broadway‘s The Book of Mormon and venue owner ATG Entertainment have called off performances of the popular musical comedy through Sunday (May 17), due to the fire on May 4 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

In a joint statement made public tonight, the producers and ATG mentioned that the fire's cause is still unknown.

ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon hope to provide an update next week regarding the show's future performances.

As stated, shows “are expected to resume at the Eugene O’Neill in the coming weeks.”

“On the morning of Monday, May 4, a fire was reported at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre,” the statement reads. “FDNY was contacted right away, arrived within minutes, and swiftly put out the fire. ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon express their sincere gratitude to the firefighters and emergency responders for their courage and quick action.”

The statement notes that the fire was confined to the “follow spot” booth at the O’Neill.

A follow spot is a stage lighting instrument that casts a bright beam onto the performance area.

The venue owners and show producers “are actively collaborating with a team of industry experts to commence repairs needed for the building.”

Those holding tickets affected by the cancellations will receive notifications from their purchase points regarding refunds or rescheduling.
