An unlikely partnership between former US President Barack Obama and comedian Larry David is set to bring a new brand of chaos to American history, and the internet has strong feelings about it. The reveal of their new HBO sketch comedy series has sparked a wave of excitement, humour, and heated debate.

The show, officially titled Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America, is a project from Obama’s Higher Ground production company.

It is reportedly a six-episode miniseries that will blend major historical moments with David's signature socially awkward humour, a style that made Curb Your Enthusiasm a hit.

A "Curb in costume": What we know about the HBO miniseries

This new Obama and Larry David HBO collaboration is already generating significant buzz. Described by one collaborator as essentially "'Curb in costume'," the series promises a unique take on history.

The project not only features the creative minds of Obama and David but also boasts a star-studded cast, reportedly including comedy veterans like Bill Hader and Kathryn Hahn. As a historical sketch comedy, the miniseries aims to reframe pivotal events through the distinct comedic lens of Larry David, all under the production banner of Barack Obama's Higher Ground.

Positive reactions: "Pretty, pretty, pretty amazing"

Many online commentators expressed pure delight at the news. One commenter hailed the announcement as, "Pretty, pretty, pretty fucking amazing," a direct nod to one of Larry David's famous catchphrases.

Another user explained their enthusiasm for the strange partnership, writing, "Im keen as for this, massive LD fan. Larrys writing humour is all about awkard mild offensive social interactions. Obama whole image is the opposite. This will be a banger." This positive sentiment was echoed by another who posted a sincere, "Thanks, Obama!" showing genuine appreciation for the former president's post-White House creative project.

Skepticism and political jabs emerge

However, the collaboration was not met with universal praise. Some commenters showed scepticism about a former world leader delving into television production. "Am I the only one who doesn't want ex presidents running around producing mediocre crap for streaming services?" one user asked.

This critical take was swiftly met with a flurry of rebuttals. One person replied, "Better than mediocre producers/actors running the country…," while another defended Obama's freedom, stating, "He was president for 8 years. Let him have some fun." Another user pointed out, "The man is a private citizen, he can do what he wants now."
