98-year-old woman’s missing wedding rings lead to theft arrest in Texas
The victim’s daughter reported three sentimental rings missing from her mother’s hand
A Texas woman has been arrested after authorities accused her of stealing wedding rings from a 98-year-old resident at a senior living facility and later pawning one of the pieces of jewelry.
According to local reports, 40-year-old Alesha McGee was charged with theft of property in connection with the incident involving an elderly woman living at a care facility in Castle Hills, Texas.
Police said the alleged victim’s daughter first reported the jewelry missing on Dec. 28, 2025, after noticing that three rings had disappeared from her mother’s hand.
The missing items reportedly included a wedding ring, an engagement ring and a sapphire ring.
Investigators later received an anonymous tip claiming McGee had been bragging about pawning jewelry at a local pawn shop and allegedly used her own identification during the transaction.
Authorities subsequently reviewed records from area pawn shops and identified documentation linked to a Cash America Pawn Shop on Blanco Road in San Antonio, according to KENS 5.
Police said records from the shop showed one of the stolen rings had been pawned there, with paperwork allegedly tied directly to McGee. Surveillance footage also reportedly captured her entering the store and completing the transaction.
The victim’s daughter, who holds power of attorney for her mother, later identified the recovered ring as belonging to the 98-year-old woman, according to an arrest affidavit cited by the outlet.
McGee was later arrested and charged with theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000.
Authorities have not publicly stated whether the remaining missing rings have been recovered.
