Denmark's Queen Margrethe remains in hospital for observation after she suffered sudden chest pain

The royal fans have expressed their sincere thoughts after Denmark´s Queen Margrethe, 86, who abdicated in 2024, was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain.

The Royal House of Denmark said Thursday, the Queen had been admitted to Rigshospitalet -- Copenhagen´s main hospital -- "this afternoon due to angina." She would remain in hospital over the weekend for observation and further examinations, the court added. "Her Majesty is tired, but in good spirits," it said.

A historic reign

The former sovereign reigned in the Scandinavian country for 52 years before passing the throne to her eldest son, Frederik, in January 2024. Hugely popular among Danes for subtly modernising the monarchy, Margrethe has faced multiple health problems in recent years.

Following hospitalisation, a royal reporter who goes by the Imperial Material on X, formerly Twitter handle, shared the palace statement alongside a photo of the former Queen.

Response from fans

Reacting to the news, one royal fan said, “The Queen has NOT been subject to a heart attack, but Angina Pectoris (or just Angina), which is a type of heart/chest pain but it somewhat different. Angina is a symptom of heart disease, whereas a heart attack is the damage resulting from it.”

“I hope the former Queen recovers completely. I have a great liking of her. She seems to be a wise and lovely woman,” the other said.

The third commented “Hmm, I wonder why they call it a heart attack, which would be a "hjerteanfald" in Danish, whereas she has been hospitalized due to heart "cramps." Which is quite normal for her age.”
