Maren Morris shares son Hayes’s growing love for Backstreet Boys hits
The singer revealed her six-year-old thinks the iconic group is still a new band
Maren Morris has opened up about a surprising new fan in her household, her six-year-old son, Hayes Andrew Hurd, who has become “obsessed” with the legendary boy band Backstreet Boys.
Speaking with People at the 2026 Music Will Benefit in New York City on May 7, the Grammy-winning artist shared that her son believes the iconic group is still new to the music scene.
“Backstreet Boys, well, he thinks they’re brand new,” Morris said. “But I was like, no, they’ve been around since I was, like, your age. But no, he’s obsessed.”
Hayes, whom Morris shares with ex-husband and fellow musician Ryan Hurd, has reportedly been diving into the group’s catalog with enthusiasm, a development even noted by Morris’s close friend Karina Argow, who said the young fan is “starting to learn about Backstreet Boys, which is a huge deal.”
The Backstreet Boys, consisting of members Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, and Howie Dorough, remain one of the most influential pop groups of their era, with a legacy that continues to span generations.
Morris, however, says she is mindful about how she introduces her son to the realities of the music industry.
“When she asked about my plans to teach him music, I said that it’s hard work, it’s fun, but it’s a lot of egos,” she explained.
Still, the singer emphasized that Hayes enjoys being on the road with her and has a naturally sweet personality, often accompanying her during tours and events.
The Highwomen member was also honored at the event with the Creative Dreamers Award, recognizing her impact in music and advocacy.
