The Battle of Crete: a pivotal moment in World War II

The Battle of Crete was a significant Second World War campaign that took place between 20 May and 1 June 1941.

It saw Nazi Germany undertake the first large-scale airborne invasion in the history of modern warfare, to seize the Greek island of Crete.

The United Kingdom played a central and decisive role throughout the campaign, serving as the primary geopolitical strategist, military commander, and naval defender of the Allied coalition.
