Spice Girls star Mel B recalls losing her first job over order mix-ups
Before global fame, the Spice Girls star struggled to keep her first restaurant job
Before becoming one of the world's biggest pop stars, Mel B was struggling to hold onto her first job.
The 51-year-old singer recently revealed that she was repeatedly fired while working at Pizza Hut as a teenager, long before she rose to international fame as a member of the Spice Girls.
Speaking to Us Weekly, Mel recalled the unusual cycle that saw her lose and regain her job regularly because of her popularity with customers.
“My first job was at Pizza Hut,” she said. “I was fired every week for messing up orders and then rehired every week because the customers liked me.”
Although she worked at the restaurant chain, the singer admitted she has never been particularly fond of fast food.
“I don’t ever order fast food. I don’t like to eat anything processed,” Mel said.
Instead, the British star prefers more traditional comfort food, revealing that her favorite meal includes classic Sunday roast staples.
“My favourite comfort meal is roast chicken, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, sprouts, roast potatoes and the full works,” she shared.
These days, Mel rarely has to spend much time in the kitchen thanks to her husband, hairstylist Rory McPhee, whom she married in 2025.
The singer praised her husband’s culinary skills, joking that she seldom cooks because he takes care of most meals at home.
“I am lucky to be married to a great cook, so I rarely cook,” Mel said. “But when I do, I make a spicy fish soup that I love.”
The marriage marks a significant chapter in Mel’s personal life after years of believing she would never walk down the aisle again.
Following her highly publicized split from film producer Stephen Belafonte in 2017, the singer had sworn off both marriage and serious relationships.
Reflecting on that period, Mel previously admitted she was convinced she would remain single while focusing on raising her children and advancing her career.
However, her perspective changed after reconnecting with McPhee, a longtime family friend who became a steady source of support after she moved back to the United Kingdom from the United States.
“He was just there patiently waiting, always there to give me a hair treatment, always there to talk,” Mel said in an earlier interview. “He’s a great listener.”
The singer explained that their friendship gradually deepened into romance, providing her with a sense of kindness and stability she had not experienced in years.
“It’d been a long time that anybody was that kind to me,” she added.
