Apple's foldable iPhone will cost over $2,000 — here are all the leaked specs so far
Apple's foldable will open to 7.8 inches, ditch Face ID, and arrive in silver, white and indigo
Apple's much-anticipated foldable iPhone is set to carry a price tag exceeding $2,000, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman — positioning it almost $1,000 above the current iPhone 17 Pro.
With a September 2026 reveal expected alongside the iPhone 18 Pro range, here is a full roundup of everything that has so far emerged about what may prove to be Apple's most consequential hardware redesign in recent memory.
Apple iPhone Fold: expected specifications
Physical prototypes that have surfaced online indicate Apple is pursuing a book-style fold rather than the clamshell format favoured by some rivals.
In its closed state, the device is said to measure 5.5 inches, expanding to 7.8 inches when open — with a 4:3 aspect ratio mirroring that of the iPad.
The casing is reported to combine titanium and aluminium, while Samsung is said to be supplying the OLED displays for both the inner and outer panels.
At just 4.5mm when unfolded, the handset is understood to be too slim to accommodate Apple's TrueDepth camera array, meaning Face ID will be absent — replaced instead by Touch ID.
Expected colour options include silver, white and indigo, drawing a parallel with the iPhone 17 Pro's Deep Blue finish.
iPhone 18 Pro: subtle updates rather than a redesign
Beyond the Fold, relatively little appears to be changing with the iPhone 18 Pro. No alterations to display size are anticipated, though the model will gain a new A20 processor and enhanced LTPO+ technology.
The Camera Control button is also set to be updated with a haptic motor, removing its touch sensitivity. Colour options for the rear panel are said to include light blue, dark cherry, dark grey and silver.
iPhone 18: a potential spec downgrade
In a surprising development, a Weibo leaker cited by MacRumors has claimed that Apple intends to reduce the specifications of the standard iPhone 18 — including its chip and memory — bringing it closer in line with the more affordable iPhone 18e.
Apple iPhone Fold: expected release dates and pricing
Reports suggest Apple's 2026 iPhone releases will be staggered across two waves. The iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are all expected in September 2026, though the foldable could slip to December if ongoing hinge design challenges are not resolved in time. The iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a new Air model are anticipated to follow in March.
Pricing for the standard range is estimated to start at $599 for the iPhone 18e, rising to $1,199 for the Pro Max. The Fold, however, sits in a considerably higher bracket, with a price expected to exceed $2,000.
