Prince William looks to the Kennedys as his version of an American royal family
Prince William brought his Earthshot Prize to Boston in its second year, honouring Kennedy ties
As he prepares to one day ascend to the British throne, the Prince of Wales has been looking across the Atlantic for inspiration — and finding it in the legacy of one of America's most iconic political families.
The Kennedy connection
Royal author Caroline Hallemann has shed light on the deep admiration Prince William holds for the Kennedy family and the influence it has had on his flagship environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize.
"William had always emphasized that the Kennedy Moonshot—President John F. Kennedy's bold statement that we would send a man to the moon and bring him safely back home within a decade—had inspired him to launch Earthshot," Hallemann said.
Boston and the Earthshot Prize
The connection was made tangible when William took the Earthshot Prize to Boston in its second year, a choice that underscored his deliberate alignment with the Kennedy spirit.
"Prince William brought the Earthshot Prize, his big global environmental initiative to Boston in its second year," Hallemann noted, adding that "this visit to Boston really emphasized those ties."
She went further in explaining the symbolic weight of the visit and what William sought to achieve through it.
"This was a British royal using the Kennedy iconography and language and legacy to help shape the narrative about a project that was important to him," Hallemann said.
