  • Warren revealed that I Miss You More is too emotionally raw for him to perform live

Alex Warren joined Hits Radio Breakfast Show host Fleur East to mark the official announcement of his forthcoming album Wild Child and the release of his new single, Passenger. The conversation proved to be one of the most candid and emotionally revealing interviews the singer has given to date.

"I did it already" — the moment with Ed Sheeran

When the discussion turned to career milestones, Warren made a striking admission: he believes he has already achieved the single greatest goal of his professional life.

"I did it already. I played with Ed, that was it," he said. "I'm not even kidding guys. Like I'm Ed's biggest fan. That beautiful like ginge of the world is Ed Sheeran. And I would argue one of the best ginges in the world. Top 2. I played with him. We played Ordinary and it was the coolest moment in my life. I'm not even kidding. I never expected to be half of where we are right now. If it all goes down crashing, I don't care."

A song too painful to perform

The tone of the interview shifted significantly when Warren spoke about one particular track on Wild Child — a song he described as far too emotionally difficult to bring to a live audience.

"There's a song called I Miss You More. And that to me is really, really difficult for me to listen to," he said. "I don't even play it live because it's so difficult to sing emotionally."

A letter never read, a grave visited

Warren then shared the deeply personal story behind the track, rooted in the loss of his father. He described a private ritual of visiting his parents' grave to play them songs he has written — and recounted the particular moment that gave birth to I Miss You More.

"When we wrote it, I went to my dad's grave and I played it for, I play my songs when I write them for my parents. I go to their grave and play it. And I just think it's like a beautiful moment. And I just, I bawled my eyes out," he said.

He went on to explain the heartbreaking circumstances that surrounded the writing of the song. "And what had happened was my dad knew he was dying and he was writing me a letter and he wrote me and all my siblings letters saying goodbye... And I had never read the letter.

"And so, I went to his grave and I read the letter and we wrote this song and it was just this beautiful, emotional, really hard record to write," Warren shared as he reflected on the songwriting process behind his album.
