Nick Jonas relives a frightening flight with Glen Powell

Nick Jonas has opened up about a deeply unsettling travel experience he once shared with his friend and fellow actor Glen Powell — one that ended with a pilot breaking down in tears upon landing.
The Power Ballad actor recounted the ordeal during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, in a clip titled Nick Jonas and Glen Powell's Harrowing Flight. Hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos guided him through the details of what proved to be a genuinely alarming journey.
How the conversation unfolded
Consuelos set the scene by acknowledging the pair's friendship before turning to the incident itself. "We've had Glen Powell on the show, he's great. I hear you two are buddies, but were bonded through a harrowing experience on a flight," he said.
Jonas confirmed the bond before walking the hosts through what happened, noting that the incident took place close to a decade ago. "So, this is almost 10 years ago, probably.
We were in Vegas together with a group of friends, and on the way home, the plane basically took off and then — I don't know the technical term for it — but there was an issue with the power. Which is never a good thing, obviously," he explained.
A joke at Powell's expense
Jonas could not resist a light-hearted dig at his friend's expense, referencing Powell's well-documented flight training ahead of Top Gun: Maverick. "And this is pre-Top Gun: Maverick Glen Powell, so he was in flight training, but he couldn't have landed the plane like he can now," he joked. "He was just regular old Glen Powell. So, you know, had this happened a couple weeks ago, different story."
He concluded his account with characteristic understatement: "Yeah, it was a frightening experience, but we were okay."
A pilot's tears said it all
When the hosts pressed him on how the flight crew had reacted to the technical failure, Jonas revealed the detail that truly brought the gravity of the situation home. Asked whether the pilots had appeared concerned, he replied with a nervous laugh: "One of them was crying when we landed." Consuelos responded simply: "That's when you know."
Jonas reflected on how that image had shifted his understanding of just how serious the incident had been. "I was thinking, 'Okay, maybe it wasn't as bad as I sort of felt like it was.' And then I saw him crying. I was like, 'Oh no, this was bad,'" he recalled.
What Nick Jonas has coming up
Jonas's latest film, Power Ballad, which also stars Paul Rudd, is currently showing in cinemas. He is also set to appear in Jumanji: Open World, which is scheduled for release on 25 December.
