Taylor and Tay Lautner discover baby's sex in an emotional moment

Taylor Lautner and Tay Lautner have let the world in on a very personal "secret" — the couple are expecting a baby girl.

The big reveal

On Sunday, the pair posted an Instagram Reel documenting the precise moment they found out the sex of their first child together. The raw, unscripted clip showed them reacting to the news in real time for the very first time.

"Our little secret is now yours," they wrote in the caption accompanying the joint post.

The footage begins with Taylor, 34, and Tay, 29, seated on a sofa, their eyes fixed on a laptop screen. Both cover their faces before clicking a prompt on the website that is set to display the result. Yet instead of an immediate answer, another button appears before them.

They close their eyes once more and click again. "Oh my gosh, that's a lot of steps," Taylor says.

The website then presents the same question a third time. "It's asked us three times," the Twilight alum observes, prompting Tay to respond, "They're taking very great precautions."

Both lean in towards the screen and click the third prompt. Before the result appears, Taylor turns to his wife and says, "I love you." When the answer finally loads, he throws his arms into the air and lets out a jubilant cry whilst Tay claps her hand over her mouth. The word "girl" appears on the screen in pink text.

Taylor wraps his wife in a tight embrace as she begins to weep. "We did it," he says.

A lifelong dream fulfilled

Following the reveal, the actor took to his Instagram Stories to share a more personal reflection on what the news meant to him.

"My dream has always been to become a girl dad."

He went on to explain the reasons behind those feelings, noting that all of his pet dogs have been female and that some of his closest friendships are with women. He added that he has only one sibling — a younger sister — and described his mother as "incredible."

"Tay is my favorite person to ever exist and she just so happens to be a girl."

He continued with a heartfelt message about the moment itself:

"All I wanted was a healthy baby but deep down this moment is what I was dreaming of. The weight that was lifted off my shoulders in this moment knowing that dream came true was unlike anything I've felt. Tay is the strongest person I know and my hero. I can't wait to welcome this baby girl into our world. Team girl!"

Pregnancy announcement and journey

Taylor and Tay first announced that they were expecting their first child together on 26 March.

Earlier this year, Tay offered a candid update on how her pregnancy was progressing during the 13 May episode of her podcast, The Squeeze. She disclosed that she had been finding her second trimester emotionally difficult, particularly in relation to how she perceived her changing body.

"I've never really struggled with comparison, but I've definitely found myself comparing my pregnant body to other pregnant women, especially the women that are weeks away from giving birth and are still all skinny and fit. I'm already not feeling great about myself, but then the comparison aspect of it."

The couple, who first went public with their romance in 2018, married in November 2022.
