Daniel Radcliffe has received a positive update on the upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation from one of its newest stars.

Speaking on the red carpet at the 79th Tony Awards on June 7, the actor revealed that he recently caught up with John Lithgow, who is set to portray Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s highly anticipated adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series.

Radcliffe, who famously played Harry Potter throughout the blockbuster film franchise, said he visited Lithgow after attending a performance of Giant, the play that earned the veteran actor the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.

“I went to see his show the other day and he's incredible in it,” Radcliffe said, praising Lithgow’s performance before the actor went on to claim his third Tony Award.

The conversation eventually turned to the new Harry Potter series, though Radcliffe said the pair did not discuss many specifics about the production.

“We didn't really talk about details particularly,” Radcliffe explained. “But he was telling me about how well it's going and how fond he is of the kids.”

The upcoming HBO adaptation will introduce a new generation of young actors to the Wizarding World.

Twelve-year-old Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as Harry Potter, while Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton will portray Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively.

Radcliffe said hearing positive reports from the set was encouraging, especially regarding the young cast taking on the iconic roles.

“It's very, very sweet,” he said. “And it's nice to know it's, you know, all going well.”

The series’s first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will adapt Rowling’s first novel and is being directed by Mark Mylod.

Production has already generated excitement among fans, with early set photos and teaser footage offering a glimpse into the reimagined world.
