Sheryl Crow speaks out against Donald Trump’s White House event, calls It 'disgraceful'
The singer condemned the White House UFC event and shared concerns about the country’s current issues
Sheryl Crow has criticized Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 celebration, describing the event as “disgraceful and void of decency” in a strongly worded social media post.
The Sheryl Crow, known for hits including “Soak Up The Sun,” shared her reaction after Sunday’s event, which celebrated Trump’s 80th birthday and marked an early celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The celebration took place on the White House South Lawn and included UFC fights as part of the event.
Crow, who has previously been outspoken in her criticism of Trump, said she felt she needed to speak out.
“To stay quiet means to turn a blind eye. And so I am saying this,” she wrote on Instagram.
“What happened last night on the lawn of the White House was disgraceful and void of decency.”
The singer also criticized the decision to host a combat sports event at the White House, arguing that the focus should instead be on issues affecting everyday Americans.
“Powerful, rich people filled the lawn to watch a violent sport that ended with a vile and racist comment. All while the average American cannot afford healthcare, gas, and cost of living,” she wrote.
Crow went on to accuse the administration of focusing on money and entertainment rather than public concerns.
“Do not be fooled. This administration is corrupt and does not give a damn about the American people,” she added.
Her comments came after controversy surrounding remarks made by UFC fighter Josh Hokit following his victory at the event.
During an appearance with Joe Rogan, Hokit praised Trump for hosting the event before making a disputed comment about former First Lady Michelle Obama.
The comment sparked backlash, with Dana White later criticizing the remark.
Speaking to TIME, White said he supports free speech but objected to personal attacks.
“I understand that the Obamas are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” White said.
Crow ended her message by urging Americans to reject what she described as distractions from important issues.
“If we continue to support this kind of distraction from reality, we are no better than them. Let’s be better, America,” she wrote.
