Actor Adam Thomas faces shock robbery by local shop owner
Supermarket manager allegedly targets Adam Thomas over false financial assumptions
- Actor Adam Thomas was overcharged £100 for sweets by a shop owner.
- The shopkeeper claimed the star did not need the money after reality television.
- The retail operator eventually returned the cash and issued a full apology.
Actor Adam Thomas revealed that he was overcharged £100 for a couple of bags of sweets by a local corner shop owner on Monday. The soap star noticed the massive inflation on the electronic card reader immediately after he had completed the automated transaction. When confronted about the transaction, the shopkeeper claimed that he did not think the performer needed the cash following his highly publicised appearance on the television network ITV.
The checkout interaction was broadcast on the At Home with the Thomas Bros podcast, which detailed the shock moment the celebrity faced the commercial overcharge. The publication The Sun highlighted how the retail manager targeted the Emmerdale star due to the sizeable appearance fee he received for competing in the jungle-themed reality show.
“I got robbed the other day!” Thomas stated during the digital broadcast. “Listen right, so I went to my local off-licence, I was buying some sweets for the kids, and I went to pay for it, and I paid for it, and then I looked at the card machine, and it said £100, and I was like ‘bro what are you doing?’”
Confrontation at the counter
The Waterloo Road star immediately challenged the operator regarding the targeted financial exploit. The proprietor dismissed the grievance, stating that the television personality was financially secure enough to absorb the loss. “He went: ‘Come on you don’t need it!’ and I was like ‘what do you mean I don’t need it?’” Thomas explained. The owner further insisted by saying, “You’ve just come off the jungle man, you don’t need it.”
Thomas admitted that the casual interaction caught him entirely off guard despite their history of regular customer banter. “I looked him dead in the eyes, and don’t get me wrong I had a banter with this guy, we have a little bit of a laugh back and forth and everything. I was just a bit caught off guard. That’s what I think, he’s getting his money back. But I was like ‘bro you can’t do that’,” Thomas added.
The shopkeeper continued to plead for the funds, saying, “oh come on man, you don’t need, I need some money, I need some.” Thomas firmly closed the conversation by stating, “I listen, I like you and everything, but don’t take the ps out of me.”
Apology and reality television fallout
The financial dispute was resolved several weeks later when Thomas returned to the village shop. The owner rushed to greet him to hand over the cash and explain that the entire event was intended as a joke.
“Weeks passed and everything, and I sort of forgot about it, and I was walking through my village again, and I went in there, and he was like ‘bro where have you been? You’ve not been back, I’ve been wanting to give you the money, come in, come in, come in,’ and he was so apologetic. Like counting the money out, and he was giving it to me, and he was like, ‘I’m so sorry, like I was just doing it as a joke. I didn’t really mean to offend you or anything like that,’” Thomas recalled.
The performer felt so bad during the apology that he considered letting the shopkeeper keep the funds, but ultimately accepted the repayment before giving the manager a bacon roll and a croissant.
The bizarre incident occurred shortly after Thomas moved on from intense behind-the-scenes drama that occurred during his stint on I’m A Celebrity All Stars. The actor previously broke down in tears on a podcast episode with his brothers, Ryan Thomas and Scott Thomas, after clashing with co-stars Jimmy Bullard and David Haye. Reflecting on the emotional recovery, Thomas stated last month that a massive dark cloud had finally lifted from his shoulders.
His brother Scott Thomas praised his personal growth, noting that the reality television conflict had given him a newfound inner strength. Thomas agreed, stating that he no longer harboured anger or resentment over the difficult journey.
