Madonna is opening up about her changing approach to fashion and self-expression, revealing that she no longer feels the need to bare it all.

The 67-year-old pop icon discussed her evolving style and decades-long provocative image during a new interview with Interview magazine’s Mel Ottenberg, explaining that revealing skin no longer feels as rebellious as it once did.

“Now I don’t want to be naked because everyone’s naked,” Madonna said, adding that she prefers to challenge expectations in a different way.

“I want to do what people are not doing, which is thinking and wearing clothes.”

The “Vogue” singer reflected on her long history of pushing boundaries and said her artistic choices have often been misunderstood by critics who focus on the surface rather than the deeper meaning behind her work.

Madonna explained that her provocative moments have always had a purpose, but she felt frustrated that many people did not look beyond the imagery.

“I do a lot of provocative things, but there’s always a reason behind it and nobody bothers to investigate,” she said, adding that such reactions once made her question why people struggled to understand her creative vision.

The Grammy-winning artist also addressed what she sees as a double standard toward women, saying that the deeper messages behind female artists’ work are often overlooked.

“They’re not tuned in to the subtleties and the layers of meanings that exist,” she said, noting that this often happens “when it comes from a female.”

Despite moving away from her past approach to revealing fashion, Madonna continues to use clothing as a major part of her artistic storytelling.

For her latest project, Confessions II, the singer revisited her fashion legacy by incorporating iconic pieces from her career, including vintage designs connected to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Her longtime stylist Rita Melssen explained that Madonna understands the importance of wardrobe in shaping an artistic vision.

“She knows that what you wear has everything to do with the feeling of what you’re trying to create,” Melssen said.
