Musician Chloe Bailey addressed the frequent public comparisons made between herself and her sister, Halle Bailey, during an appearance on the podcast Call Her Daddy on Wednesday. The 28-year-old singer reflected on how the siblings navigated being pitted against one another by the public as they rose to fame as the musical duo Chloe x Halle.
Call Her Daddy broadcast the interview, where Chloe Bailey explained that the public first began comparing the sisters after they posted their first musical cover, a rendition of Best Thing I Never Had, on the website World Star. She noted that the online platform was lethal but highlighted that audiences frequently fail to realise how inherently different the two sisters are fundamentally.
According to the artist, Halle Bailey grew up loving jazz and neo-soul music, whereas she prefers pop music featuring heavy drums. She stated that people often wanted to see one style or the other, rather than appreciating that they brought two different sides of themselves to their work.
Chloe Bailey admitted that seeing certain online comments hurt them at times, prompting the sisters to talk to each other to question if the criticisms were true. She revealed that they had to constantly uplift each other during those moments, describing their dynamic as fire and water. The singer also explained that they clung tight to each other so they never had to face criticism or celebrate positivity alone.
The artist recently supported her 26-year-old sister at a Los Angeles screening for the romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany in April. Chloe Bailey previously told PEOPLE in 10 that they are each other's safety blanket because they started their careers doing everything together. Aside from her collaborative work, Chloe Bailey currently stars in a psychological thriller titled Strung, which released on Peacock on June 26. She also released a collaborative album with music producer Timbaland, titled Resurrection, on June 19.
