Former First Lady Michelle Obama revealed that her favourite movie of all time is the 2003 Christmas comedy Elf. The 62-year-old shared the unexpected cinematic preference during the latest episode of her podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson. The broadcast featured a special guest appearance from Hollywood actor Will Ferrell, who portrayed the central character Buddy the Elf in the widely popular festive motion picture.

PEOPLE reported that the mother-of-two expressed her enthusiasm for the project through a social media post on Instagram ahead of the episode's release. Obama stated that she was incredibly excited to speak directly with Ferrell regarding the production. She clarified to her followers that her long-standing admiration for the festive feature film was genuine, noting that she is not joking when she tells people Elf is her favourite movie of all time.

During the podcast recording, Obama explained that the holiday classic remains the only feature film she consistently watches over and over again. She noted that she does not usually watch movies more than once, but this specific story makes her laugh every time. The podcast host added that she frequently requests other people to watch the production alongside her because she genuinely enjoys sharing her favourite comedic moments.

Ferrell also detailed his personal experiences filming the project, explaining that he left the television show Saturday Night Live in 2002 after seven years to pursue the opportunity. The actor revealed that the original script required a significant amount of development, which prompted the production team to rewrite the entire narrative before filming commenced. He reflected that the concept of a human raised by elves at the North Pole was amazing, though he had no idea at the time that they had captured lightning in a bottle. Released in 2003, Elf follows Buddy as he travels to New York City to meet his biological father.
