Dwayne Johnson teases future reunion with Kevin Hart after Broadway delay
While promoting his latest projects, Dwayne Johnson shares that his dream Broadway debut with Kevin Hart
Dwayne Johnson isn't giving up on his dream of starring alongside Kevin Hart on Broadway, even if their packed schedules have delayed the project.
The actor revealed that he and his longtime friend had hoped to bring The Odd Couple to the stage, but conflicting commitments have made the production impossible—for now.
Speaking to People, Johnson said he has been developing his Broadway debut for nearly three years.
"We were going to do The Odd Couple," the Moana star said, explaining that scheduling conflicts have kept the project from moving forward.
Johnson praised Hart's relentless work ethic, noting that the comedian's calendar is booked years in advance.
"We should've been great. Kevin is my best friend. I love him to death, and the truth is, he's so booked for the next three to five years," he said.
"That's his schedule, that's a reality. I totally get it. And I love it, and I respect him for that."
Despite the delay, Johnson made it clear he has no plans to abandon the idea.
"We do Jumanji, which we'll promote at the end of the year, but I'm not letting that dream go," he added.
Originally premiering on Broadway in 1965, The Odd Couple follows the unlikely friendship between mismatched roommates Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison.
The beloved comedy later inspired a 1968 film adaptation and a television series that ran for five seasons during the 1970s.
While the Broadway project remains on hold, Johnson and Hart are set to reunite on screen in Jumanji: Open World, which is scheduled to hit theaters this Christmas.
Johnson is also reprising his role as the demigod Maui in Disney's live-action Moana, following his performance in the studio's 2016 animated blockbuster.
