An Illinois man has been sentenced to 120 years in prison after being convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman he abducted at knifepoint from a Starbucks parking lot in 2022.

Timothy J. Dubois Jr., 42, was found guilty of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Circuit Judge Tim Berkley handed down the sentence following his conviction in May.

Prosecutors said Dubois forced the victim into her own vehicle outside a Collinsville Starbucks on Nov. 11, 2022, before ordering her to drive to a residential area in nearby Troy, where she was sexually assaulted. He later returned the victim to Collinsville and fled the scene.

Investigators used forensic genetic genealogy after recovering DNA evidence from the crime scene, ultimately identifying Dubois as the suspect.

During the investigation, Dubois admitted the victim "could've been anyone" and told detectives he targeted the location because he believed women frequently visited the coffee shop.

Following the sentencing, Collinsville Police Chief Brett Boerm praised investigators and prosecutors, calling the outcome "a win for public safety" while acknowledging the victim's long road to recovery.
