An Arizona man arrested as a suspect, Nathaniel Scott Gotham, was taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed his wife 24 times during a domestic dispute in Mesa on Saturday. The Mesa Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing at an apartment complex located in the area of 4200 East University Drive at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, emergency responders located an adult female with multiple stab wounds and transported her to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

KKTV and AZ Family reported that police arrested 32-year-old Gotham at the scene. Prosecutors revealed during his initial court appearance that the victim suffered deep cuts to her back, head, neck, and face, alongside defensive wounds on her hands. Authorities confirmed the stabbing was an isolated incident with no broader threat to the public.

In a statement shared with People, police investigators disclosed that Gotham admitted to the attack, claiming he snapped during the altercation because he wanted to hurt his wife and make her stop talking. Court documents indicate that Gotham told his wife of approximately 14 years that he had wasted the best years of his life and had ended up with the wrong woman. He also admitted to investigators that he had physically assaulted his wife in the past, which included choking her during an argument several years earlier.

The victim remains in stable condition while recovering from her injuries at a local hospital. Police booked the Arizona man arrested as a suspect into custody on a class 2 felony charge of attempted second-degree murder-domestic violence. Following the arrest, online jail records indicate that a judge set Gotham’s bond at £390,000 ($500,000). His next scheduled court appearance is set for Friday, July 17, 2026.
