An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed a 26-year-old Colombian man during a deportation pursuit in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday, July 13, 2026. The fatal incident occurred as federal officers pursued the individual, who allegedly drove his vehicle in the direction of an officer.

The Associated Press, WGME, and WMTW reported that the Office of the Maine Attorney General launched an investigation into the shooting as protesters began taking to the streets. Senator Angus King stated that Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin informed him that the officer fired when the man attempted to use his vehicle to strike the officers. King explained that the individual weaponised his vehicle before being shot by the ICE agent, adding that the man had previously been issued an order to leave the country.

Mufalo Chitam, the executive director of the Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition, identified the deceased as a 26-year-old Colombian national who was heading to work at the time of the shooting. Chitam noted that the man was authorised to work in the United States, possessed a Social Security number, and had a young family who contacted the coalition following the incident.

The shooting in Maine occurred less than a week after another fatal confrontation involving a federal immigration officer. On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was shot and killed during an immigration enforcement operation in Houston, Texas. ICE officials alleged that Araujo rammed an agency vehicle after refusing multiple verbal commands. The agency stated that an officer fired in self-defence after Araujo allegedly attempted to run over the agent with his vehicle.
