'Hotel Transylvania 5' set for October theatrical release
Dracula, Mavis return as Drac Pack tackles new haunted mystery
Hotel Transylvania 5 will arrive in cinemas this October, bringing Dracula, Mavis and the Drac Pack back to the big screen for the first theatrical instalment in the animated franchise since 2018. The new film follows the previous sequel, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, which premiered exclusively on Prime Video in 2022.
Dracula, Mavis return for new mystery
The latest chapter sees Dracula enjoying retirement while his daughter, Mavis, takes charge of Hotel Transylvania.
Their peaceful routine is disrupted when unexplained supernatural events begin unfolding across the resort. The mysterious happenings lead the Drac Pack to investigate what is being called "The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania."
Amazon MGM, Sony reunite for franchise return
Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film at Amazon MGM Studios, described Hotel Transylvania as a rare family franchise that has continued to resonate with audiences for more than a decade.
She said the studio was excited to partner with Sony Pictures Animation to bring the Drac Pack back to cinemas, adding that the series has consistently blended humour with heartfelt storytelling.
Franchise returns after streaming-only sequel
The original Hotel Transylvania debuted in 2012 and earned about $355 million at the global box office, launching one of Sony Pictures Animation's most successful franchises.
Its sequels, Hotel Transylvania 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, grossed approximately $475 million and $530 million, respectively. The fourth film, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, skipped cinemas and premiered on Prime Video in 2022, making the fifth instalment the franchise's return to theatrical release.
