Anne Hathaway admitted she and husband Adam Shulman were surprised when they conceived their third child, revealing the pregnancy came as an unexpected success despite the couple intentionally trying for another baby.

Hathaway says pregnancy was planned but still unexpected

Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Oscar winner addressed her recent description of the pregnancy as a "buzzer beater."

Hathaway clarified that she and Shulman, whom she married in 2012, deliberately decided to try for another child.

"We knew what we were doing," she said, adding that both were "so shocked it worked" and did not expect events to unfold the way they did.

Host Seth Meyers jokingly compared the pregnancy to scoring "right at the buzzer," prompting Hathaway to laugh along with the analogy.

Actress embraces growing family

During the interview, Meyers shared his own experience as a father of three, telling Hathaway that parenting eventually becomes less about constant worry and more about watching children grow.

Hathaway responded that she is enjoying this stage of family life and joked that welcoming another child simply means adding "a new cast member."

The actress and Shulman are already parents to sons Jonathan and Jack.

Hathaway has previously spoken about fertility struggles

News of Hathaway's pregnancy emerged in June after she debuted her baby bump while on holiday in France before later confirming the news on social media.

The actress has also spoken publicly about the emotional challenges she faced while trying to conceive.

In a previous interview, Hathaway described fertility struggles as painful and isolating, saying many people experience a far more complicated journey to parenthood than is often portrayed.
