Craig Melvin returned to the Today show on Friday, one day after an intruder allegedly entered an unauthorized area of the Rockefeller Plaza studio and confronted him.

Addressing viewers at the start of the broadcast, the 47-year-old anchor assured everyone that he was doing well following the incident.

“I want to take a quick moment to address an incident that happened yesterday,” Melvin said.

“Thankfully he was apprehended quickly. He was placed under arrest. We are cooperating fully with NYPD as they investigate the matter, and we are just very happy that everyone is safe.”

Co-anchor Laura Jarrett also checked on Melvin during the broadcast, telling him she wanted to make sure he was safe.

“Safe and sound,” Melvin replied.

According to the New York Police Department, 41-year-old Andrew Truelove has been charged with hate crime burglary, hate crime menacing, hate crime criminal trespass and harassment following the incident.

NBC News said the man entered an unauthorized area near Studio 1A before approaching Melvin.

The network stated that security personnel quickly detained the individual and law enforcement took him into custody without further incident.

The broadcaster also confirmed there was no physical altercation and no injuries were reported.

In a statement, NBC News said it is fully cooperating with investigators while reviewing its security procedures to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Court records cited by People indicate Truelove was sentenced last month in an unrelated felony criminal mischief case and also has several pending criminal cases.

Police said the investigation into Thursday's incident remains ongoing.
