13-year-old Washington, D.C., boy was allegedly lured from his apartment before being shot dead, with investigators searching for those responsible for the killing.

The Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as Ahmad Mims, who was found with a gunshot wound to the chest on the 1600 block of Rosedale Street on Saturday evening. Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting and discovered the teenager unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to Ahmad's grandmother, Monica Mims, two people came to the family's apartment and "knocked on the door to ask him to come outside." She confirmed it was the last time her grandson was seen alive.

Ring camera captured Ahmad's final moments

Ring camera footage shared by the family reportedly shows two young males waiting outside the apartment before Ahmad opened the door. After seeing them, he closed the door and looked through the camera before later leaving the apartment.

Court records cited by local media state that a witness found Ahmad lying on the stairwell of a nearby building after he was shot. The witness alleged they saw "a Black male, wearing all black clothing and with a muscular build" dragging the teen's body onto the sidewalk.

Reacting to the alleged treatment of her grandson, Monica Mims said, "To, like, drag him out like a bag of trash, that just hurts me even more." She added, "Like, a little boy that can think like that, to even drag someone outside after you shoot 'em.'"

Police continue homicide investigation

Authorities have not identified any suspects or announced arrests.

Ahmad's grandmother said he had recently been involved in a fight at school, although police have not confirmed whether that incident is connected to the killing.

Witnesses told investigators they believe the shooting may have stemmed from allegations that Ahmad struck the suspected shooter's sister, but police have not verified a motive and say the homicide investigation remains ongoing.

The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact investigators. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
