Lucy Hale announces sudden death of father Preston at 68

Lucy Hale is mourning the loss of her father, Preston Hale, who died suddenly on July 17 at the age of 68.

The Pretty Little Liars actress shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional Instagram tribute, remembering her father as a kind, funny and devoted family man. 

While Hale did not disclose the cause of his death, she reflected on the special bond they shared throughout her life.

"I can't believe I'm writing this, but my sweet daddy suddenly passed away on Friday," she wrote.

Hale described her father as someone who deeply loved his family, including his wife Stacy, daughters, grandchildren, friends and dogs. 

She also paid tribute to his passion for farming and his hometown of Milan, Tennessee, recalling his love of fishing, hunting, golfing and the outdoors.

The actress revealed that her final moments with her father brought her comfort, saying their last conversation, last visit and final phone call were all "beautiful."

She also shared that her sister Maggie happened to be visiting her in Los Angeles when they received the devastating news, calling it a gift she believes her father somehow arranged.

Hale said her faith has helped her cope with the loss, explaining that she believes her father remains with the family in spirit and will continue sending signs to those he loved.

Ending her tribute, the actress thanked Preston for being "the exact father I needed in this life" and asked fans to keep her stepmother, Stacy, in their prayers as she navigates the difficult loss.

Following the announcement, several of Hale's celebrity friends, including Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor and Lea Thompson, offered messages of love and support in the comments.
