Matt Damon reveals surprising stunt double secret from 'The Odyssey'
While discussing Christopher Nolan's epic, Matt explained why a female stunt performer was used during the movie
Matt Damon has shared an unexpected behind-the-scenes detail from The Odyssey, revealing that a female stunt performer served as his double for one of the film's most visually demanding sequences.
The Oscar-winning actor opened up about the experience during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, explaining that the stunt double was used while filming the forced-perspective scenes featuring the towering Laestrygonians.
"When we did the forced perspective stuff of the Laestrygonians... my double was a woman, a female stunt performer, who had the greatest arms I've ever seen," Damon said.
The 55-year-old recalled meeting the stunt performer on set and thanking her for the work she put into the sequence, explaining that she appeared in the scenes where the giants loom over his character, Odysseus.
Joking about the finished film, Damon quipped that audiences were "almost" seeing his own arms on screen, while giving full credit to his stunt double for her contribution.
The actor has previously described portraying the legendary Greek hero as one of the most rewarding experiences of his career, praising director Christopher Nolan's commitment to practical filmmaking.
Damon said The Odyssey was made with minimal reliance on green screens, comparing Nolan's approach to that of legendary filmmaker David Lean.
He also praised the Oscar-winning director's leadership, noting that Nolan was always alongside the cast during physically demanding shoots, enduring the same challenging conditions without complaint.
