Woman accused of poisoning ex-husband with eye drops in drinks

Wisconsin woman has been charged after allegedly poisoning her ex-husband by repeatedly putting Visine eye drops into his drinks and attempting to contaminate his CPAP machine. Investigators say she admitted making him ill because she wanted him to rely on her.

Police allege poisoning went on for years

According to a criminal complaint, Jessica Meis, 37, is accused of poisoning her ex-husband over several years while the pair continued sharing parenting responsibilities after their divorce.

Law & Crime reported the man reportedly told police he had suffered recurring episodes of dizziness, exhaustion, headaches and low blood pressure since 2021, leading to multiple hospital visits.

Hidden camera captured alleged tampering

Investigators said the ex-husband installed a camera in his kitchen after becoming suspicious that someone was tampering with his drinks.

Police allege the footage showed Meis removing a small container from her pocket and pouring its contents into a water bottle before returning it to its original place.

Another recording allegedly showed her handling a bottle of eye drops while preparing one of his drinks.

Woman allegedly admitted using Visine

During questioning, police said Meis initially claimed she had added salt or saline to help with her ex-husband's blood pressure.

According to investigators, she later admitted using Visine eye drops and said she had done it "many times."

Police allege she told them she added the eye drops to energy drinks, bottled water, other beverages and also attempted to put them into his CPAP machine.

Charges and court appearance

Investigators allege Meis said she wanted to make her ex-husband sick so he would "need her" and allow her to care for him.

She has been charged with aggravated battery with a domestic violence modifier and two counts of placing foreign objects in edibles.

Meis remains in custody on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 27.
