Influencer Sara Gilson fatally shot after seeking legal protection from husband
Authorities are investigating the deaths of Sara Gilson and her estranged husband after a child at the residence called 911
Influencer Sara Gilson was fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide involving her estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, less than two weeks after publicly accusing him of being a pedophile on social media.
According to authorities cited by local media, Gilson, 43, and Duffey, 48, were found dead with gunshot wounds at her home in Owasso, Oklahoma, on July 23 after a child living at the residence called 911.
Investigators said Duffey allegedly shot Gilson before turning the gun on himself.
Days before her death, Gilson posted a TikTok referencing her impending divorce and accusing her estranged husband of being a pedophile as part of a viral "Netflix documentary" trend.
Court records reviewed by People show Gilson had previously sought legal protection from Duffey.
She filed two protective orders against him in 2021, though both were dismissed after she did not attend the hearings.
On June 10, Gilson successfully obtained an emergency protective order, which required Duffey to leave the family home and remain at least 100 yards away from her. The order was later extended through Aug. 24.
According to court filings cited by The Oklahoman, Gilson alleged Duffey possessed a firearm, threatened to take his own life and fled after the incident.
On the same day Gilson filed for protection, another woman sought a separate protective order on behalf of her 15-year-old daughter, who had played on a youth basketball team coached by Duffey.
According to court documents, the mother alleged Duffey kissed and inappropriately touched the teenager after another coach witnessed the incident.
The filing also claimed he sent the girl messages, invited her to his hotel room during a tournament and offered her money to remain silent.
The protective order filed on the girl's behalf was also extended through Aug. 24.
People reported it had contacted the Owasso Police Department for comment.
Authorities have not publicly announced any criminal charges related to the allegations because Duffey died at the scene. The investigation into the deaths remains ongoing.
