Rita Ora opens up about family plans with husband Taika Waititi

Rita Ora has revealed that her husband, Taika Waititi, is thankful she chose to freeze her eggs years before they began their relationship as the couple now considers expanding their family.

The 35-year-old singer told The Times that she froze her eggs at the ages of 24 and 27 to preserve her fertility, a decision she now sees as one of the best she has made.

Reflecting on the choice, Ora said Waititi, 50, often praises her for planning ahead.

“He says, ‘Good job for planning ahead, girl,’” she shared.

The couple, who married in 2022, have been discussing having children together. Waititi is already father to daughters Te Kainga o te Hinekahu, 14, and Matewa Kiritapu, 10, whom he shares with his former wife, Chelsea Winstanley.

Ora said she enjoys spending time with her stepdaughters and hopes to add to their family, although balancing parenthood with their busy careers has been a consideration.

“I have a lovely time with my stepdaughters and I’d love to add to our family but… when?” she said.

The singer admitted she once believed having children while maintaining demanding careers would be “impossible,” but said she found inspiration in former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Ora praised Ardern for continuing her leadership role after welcoming daughter Neve in 2018, recalling how she even brought her baby to the United Nations.

“She even breastfed her at the United Nations, which to me is proof of what a woman who loves her job can achieve,” Ora said.

The Hot Right Now hitmaker also reflected on her relationship with Waititi, revealing the pair first met at a barbecue in 2018 before remaining close friends for three years.

According to Ora, turning their friendship into a romance felt like a risk because she feared losing someone who had become an important part of her life.

“Kissing your best friend is a big moment,” she said. “Because when you fall in love with your best friend, you are risking quite a lot.”

In 2022, Ora decided to take another leap by proposing to the Oscar-winning filmmaker herself. She surprised Waititi by decorating a hotel room with balloons, ordering a cake and getting down on one knee.

“Was I ready to hear, ‘No’? Obviously, that’s not the outcome I was looking for, but in life and in love, you sometimes have to take a risk for what you really want,” she said.

The couple married two months later in an intimate ceremony attended by Ora’s sister Elena, Waititi’s children and his best friend.

Looking back, Ora admitted there was a time when she questioned whether she would ever find the right partner.

“I spent a long time thinking I’d never find someone to marry,” she said. “My question was: who’s going to keep up with my pace? Well, I found him.”
