Kelly Clarkson reveals why she is ‘so glad’ to be single

Kelly Clarkson says she is enjoying single life and appreciates the peace that comes with not having relationship drama at home.

The 44-year-old singer opened up about being single during her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace on Friday, July 24, explaining why she is happy not to be in a relationship right now.

Clarkson separated from her late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. Blackstock died from cancer in 2025.

Speaking on stage, Clarkson addressed questions about why she is single and said she believes many people are making single life look appealing.

“People are like, ‘Oh, why are you single?’ And I'm like, ‘First of all, there are a lot of people out here making single look real good,’” she said.

The Breakaway singer added that seeing certain relationships has made her appreciate coming home alone.

“You see relationships and you're like, ‘I am so glad I'm going home alone,’” Clarkson joked. “You know what’s not happening in my house? That.”

Clarkson, who shares daughter River Rose, 12, and son Remington Alexander, 10, with Blackstock, also reflected on the challenges of maintaining a long-term relationship.

She said keeping a relationship exciting requires effort and that couples have to continue creating meaningful moments together.

“If you are in a relationship, the hardest part is just keeping that fire alive and still dating and like still making it feel magical and not monotonous,” she said.

The singer recently joked about remaining single forever while sharing a humorous story about recovering from cyclosporiasis, a foodborne illness.

During another residency performance, Clarkson joked that she was grateful to have her own room while dealing with the illness, saying she could not imagine having a partner around during that experience.

“I have never been so happy there is not a man in the room,” she joked.

Clarkson continued with a playful comment about her future dating life, saying she would be single “until I’m dead” before joking that she would eventually find someone who could handle her sense of humour.

Despite her jokes, Clarkson said she was feeling better and thanked fans for their support.
