Just 23 hours after saying goodbye to his long-running CBS talk show, Stephen Colbert made a surprise return to television. The former late-night host popped up on a public access program called "Only in Monroe" in Monroe, Michigan. Joking about his brief time away from the cameras, Colbert expressed his gratitude to the local community station for hosting him.
The hour-long public access broadcast featured several major celebrity guests, including live appearances by Jack White and Jeff Daniels. Michigan natives Eminem and Steve Buscemi also contributed to the program through pre-taped segments. While the sudden appearance caught many fans off guard, Colbert actually predicted the move during his final episode of The Late Show, reminding his audience that he had previously hosted the local Michigan show back in July 2015.
