Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper’ finale announced as feature length movie

Heartstopper will conclude this year with a major bang as Netflix has announced an exciting update.

The streaming giant announced that the finale of the fan favourite coming-of-age series, which consists of three seasons so far, will feature as a full length motion picture.

Netflix broke the news on Tuesday, April 22, via X (formerly known as Twitter).

“‘Heartstopper’ will return, bigger than ever,” the post announced.

“A ‘Heartstopper’ movie, our final chapter based on Alice Oseman’s upcoming volume six, is coming!!!” the streamer announced, referencing the author behind their famous series.

Additionally, Oseman initially wrote and illustrated Heartstopper as a webcomic in 2016 and as of present, the series is still ongoing.

However, as Netflix’s part in the series comes to an end, the English writer said in a statement, “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the ‘Heartstopper’ story.”

Acknowledging those who worked on the show as well as its fans, she further shared, “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of ‘Heartstopper’ for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

According to the synopsis officially released by Netflix, the movie will pick up where season three of the series left viewers, with the protagonists Nick and Charlie being entirely in love with each other.

“But, with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet,” the official synopsis revealed.

Heartstopper has been a game-changer with critics and audiences alike praising the acclaimed series’ depiction of sensitive issues regarding a marginalized group.

Starring Kit Connor and Joe Locke, the Heartstopper movie is bound to begin filming around summer 2025.

However, details regarding its release have yet to be been confirmed.
