Sadie Sink 'felt very lucky' on Max Mayfield’s coma wake-up scene
The 'Stranger Things' star reflects on Max Mayfield’s long-awaited coma wake-up scene
Sadie Sink opened up about Stranger Things 5’s most affecting moments.
The Spider-Man: Brand New Days actress reflected on Max Mayfield’s long-awaited coma wake-up scene.
Sink said she felt “very lucky” to be part of a moment that was as emotionally precise as it was quietly devastating, per Netflix.
“When a scene is so beautifully written and a moment is as touching as that,” she said, “it makes my job easier to connect with Max.”
The sequence reunites Max with Lucas after nearly two years of silence, and Sink credited McLaughlin’s performance for grounding the scene.
“When Caleb is giving such an incredible performance, it changes the energy in the room,” she said.
That shift was felt across the set. McLaughlin later recalled an unbroken stillness once the scene wrapped, followed by tears from cast members including Maya Hawke and Amybeth McNulty.
“Everyone just felt the presence of what we brought to the table,” he said.
Sink framed Max’s survival as emotional rather than physical. “Knowing that he’s not giving up on me that’s what’s saving her,” she said of Lucas, adding, “He knows I’m still in there.”
