Chad Michael Murray reacts to Scott Patterson’s exit from 'Sullivan’s Crossing'
Chad Michael Murray reveals creative differences behind Scott Patterson's departure from the series
Chad Michael Murray has addressed the departure of Scott Patterson from Sullivan's Crossing, following confirmation that Patterson will not return for season 4.
Patterson, who portrayed Harry “Sully” Sullivan since the show’s debut in 2023, was written out after the season 3 finale, which saw his character leave for Ireland.
Showrunner Roma Roth explained that while Sully is not physically present in the new season, the character remains part of the story and could return in the future.
Speaking after the season 4 premiere, Murray said cast changes are not unusual in television and emphasised the importance of staying true to the show’s core identity.
He noted that despite Patterson’s absence onscreen, Sully’s influence continues to shape the narrative.
Co-star Morgan Kohan added that her character Maggie faces major emotional challenges this season, including stepping into new responsibilities while losing a key source of support.
However, Patterson has offered a different perspective on his exit. In a statement shared publicly, he cited creative differences, saying he chose not to continue as the direction of the show no longer aligned with his vision.
He also expressed his deep connection to the character and appreciation for fans.
Despite the off-screen developments, Sullivan’s Crossing continues its fourth season, with new episodes airing weekly on The CW.
