Josh Duhamel opens up about feeling overshadowed by Fergie during their marriage

Josh Duhamel opened up about his eight-year marriage to singer Fergie, admitting that he sometimes felt overshadowed by her stardom—but says it was “probably [his] own ego.”

The 53-year-old actor reflected on their relationship during the March 25 episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, where he also discussed his company Gatlan and recent projects. Duhamel and Fergie were married from 2009 to 2017 and share 12-year-old son Axl.

“It was a huge sort of shift because she was a massive star at the time, and it was a big adjustment for me, if I’m being honest,” Duhamel said. “But you know, Fergie is a very normal person at the end of the day. Good mom. We have a great relationship—she and my wife actually get along.”

When asked if he ever felt the need to “navigate whose star is bigger,” Duhamel added, “Yeah, probably. It’s probably my own ego more than anything. I don’t think it bugged her as much as it probably did me. But you know, she was a massive star at the time. Suddenly you’re in that shadow a lot of times.”

Duhamel and Fergie first met in 2004 when the singer and the Black Eyed Peas filmed a cameo on his series Las Vegas.

They became engaged in 2007, married in 2009, welcomed Axl in 2013, and announced their separation in 2017, finalizing their divorce in 2019.

Since 2022, Duhamel has been married to Audra Mari. The couple welcomed their son, Shepherd Lawrence Duhamel, in 2024 and are expecting their second child together. Duhamel emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive, peaceful co-parenting relationship.

“She’s a great mom. I’m extremely happily married now to my wife Audra, we have a beautiful son and a little girl on the way, and they have a great relationship, which is what I really care about—making sure that everybody’s just copacetic,” he said. “I just want peace and I don’t want any infighting between anybody. It could be ugly, but thankfully it’s not.”

Duhamel has been candid about the respectful post-divorce relationship with Fergie in previous interviews. In 2023, he told The Jess Cagle Show that Fergie “only has love for Audra” and was excited for him and Mari to have their first child together.

Currently, Duhamel is promoting his latest project, Preschool, available on digital platforms.
