Busted’s Matt Willis shares health update on James Bourne post 'life-extending' surgery

Busted’s Matt Willis shared a health update today regarding James Bourne after he disclosed undergoing "life-prolonging" surgery.

The 42-year-old singer was compelled to drop out of the band’s tour last year with only a few hours left due to a serious illness.

Recently, after staying silent for months, James announced he was undergoing “major surgery” in an effort to “prolong his life”.

Today, his lifelong friend Matt, who he’s known for more than twenty years, provided an update on his friend's health struggle.

When asked on Good Morning Britain about James’ condition, he stated: “Oh, it all happened pretty swiftly.

“He fell ill just before the tour was about to kick off, so he had to withdraw, and we shared updates about it.

This update follows just days after James shared a concerning message to his followers last Saturday.

“I realised it’s been approximately six months since my last post,” he mentioned in an Instagram story.

“I am planning to undergo major surgery that should extend my life and hopefully make me well enough to return to what I love most: touring and creating music.

James and Matt gained popularity alongside Charlie Simpson when Busted broke into the pop world in 2002 with What I Go To School For.

The band took a break a few years later, returned in 2015 much to fans' excitement, and have been together since then.

However, in September James had to leave the band’s tour with McFly just shortly before it was set to begin.

In his message, the singer referred to his health issues and expressed he “hoped to return eventually.”

He stated: “The VS tour kicks off tomorrow night in Birmingham and although I have been eagerly anticipating it all year, I’m heartbroken to say that over the last 8 days it has become apparent that I am not in well enough condition to perform these shows.”
