Jenna Ortega recalls early ‘Hereditary’ audition and why It wasn’t the right fit

Jenna Ortega has reflected on an early audition that didn’t quite align with her at the time, revealing she once tried out for the critically acclaimed horror film Hereditary when she was just 12 years old.

Speaking on the Big Bro with Kid Cudi podcast, the Wednesday star shared that while she didn’t fully understand the material during the audition process, she instinctively felt the project would be significant.

Ortega explained that the audition sides were minimal and abstract, making it difficult for her younger self to grasp the tone and depth of the film.

Looking back, she admitted that her personality and presence at the time likely didn’t fit the project’s dark and intense narrative.

“I just didn’t make any sense for it,” she said, noting that the experience, in hindsight, feels almost humorous given how the film ultimately turned out.

Despite not landing a role, Ortega recalled watching the finished movie in theaters and immediately recognizing its impact, telling her mother she had predicted its importance.

The 2018 film, which starred Toni Collette and Milly Shapiro, went on to become one of the most acclaimed horror films of its generation.

Ortega also reflected on how she has handled rejection throughout her career, explaining that she has always approached missed opportunities with perspective, trusting that the right roles would eventually come her way.
