Barbie Ferreira explains why she left 'Euphoria' ahead of season 3 premiere
The actress reflects on choosing creative freedom over staying on the hit HBO series
Barbie Ferreira opened up about her decision to step away from Euphoria ahead of the show’s upcoming third-season premiere, offering new insight into why she left the hit series after Season 2.
Ferreira, who portrayed Katherine “Kat” Hernandez from 2019 to 2022, said in a recent interview with Colliderthat her exit came after she felt her character’s storyline had run its course.
During Season 2, she explained, it “just felt like the character wasn’t Kat anymore,” adding that there was a sense among those involved that her narrative arc had naturally come to an end.
The actress also addressed how Kat’s presence became increasingly limited in a cast dominated by major ensemble storylines, noting that the extended production timeline contributed to her decision to move on from the show.
Describing it as a personal and professional choice, Ferreira said she ultimately wanted to pursue projects that gave her more creative fulfillment.
“I felt like I wanted to do more things,” she said, adding that she was less concerned with remaining on one of HBO’s biggest series and more focused on expanding her range as an actor.
Following her departure, Ferreira said she transitioned into smaller independent projects, emphasizing her desire to explore roles that allowed her to express herself more fully.
“I felt like I wasn’t showing my potential as the actress that I know that I am,” she said.
Since leaving Euphoria, Ferreira has lined up several new projects, including roles in the remake of the 1978 film Faces of Death and the indie music film Mile End Kicks.
