Keanu Reeves’ off-camera persona surprises Laverne Cox on 'Outcome' set
The actress highlights Reeves’ intense work ethic paired with a shy demeanor
Laverne Cox has opened up about her experience working alongside Keanu Reeves, revealing a surprisingly reserved side to the Hollywood star.
Speaking with People at the New York City premiere of Outcome on April 6, Cox described Reeves as intensely dedicated during filming, yet notably down-to-earth once the cameras stop rolling.
“Keanu is focused, and Keanu is intense and just dialed in every single take,” Cox said, adding that the actor relaxes between scenes and becomes more conversational.
“He’s chill and really normal, as normal as you can be when you’re an international superstar… almost shy.”
Cox, 53, also joked about maintaining professionalism on set, despite Reeves’ charm, noting she kept things “appropriate” while filming.
The actress revealed she was initially uncertain about joining the project, which is directed and co-written by Jonah Hill. However, her hesitation quickly faded after reading the script.
She described the screenplay as “smart,” “funny” and deeply insightful, particularly praising her character Virginia’s monologue, which she called one of the most meaningful pieces of dialogue she has performed on screen.
Cox added that Reeves’ involvement further sealed her decision to join the film, admitting she would have signed on immediately had she known he was attached from the start.
Beyond the on-set dynamic, Cox connected personally with the film’s themes of fame, loneliness and self-awareness — elements she said mirror her own experiences in the public eye.
The dark comedy, which also stars Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer and David Spade, is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
