Adewale discusses tense Euphoria premiere scene with Zendaya

The season three premiere of the HBO drama "Euphoria" concluded with a harrowing confrontation between Zendaya’s character, Rue, and a formidable new antagonist.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who portrays the sinister crime boss Alamo Brown, exclusively told Page Six that the heart-pounding scene involved his character shooting an apple off Rue’s head.

Filming took place at midnight in Palmdale, California, amidst 35-mile-an-hour winds.

"I’m standing there in some Speedos and cowboy boots. So, as exotic as it might have looked, it was freezing cold!" the British actor recalled, clarifying that "camera trickery" ensured Zendaya’s safety during the stunt.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje praised his Emmy-winning co-star as "generous, very intelligent, and not precious with any of the material."

He noted her intense commitment, even encouraging colleagues to "chuck the mud in my face" for authenticity. Within the narrative, the marksman’s actions served as a brutal "test of character" for Rue after a delivery went wrong.

"Had she flinched and run, I think he might have shot her," the actor explained, suggesting Alamo recognises a kindred ambition in Rue. He views the encounter as a "prelude" to the darkness awaiting her this season.

Returning after a lengthy hiatus, the series now follows Rue five years after her high school years as she navigates a dangerous debt to drug dealer Laurie.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje, known for his previous roles in "Lost" and "Game of Thrones," teased that viewers will soon witness the true depths of the darkness his character’s world entails.
