Gucci-branded Google smart glasses to launch in 2027
Gucci's parent company, Kering, plans to release the glasses in 2027
Google is teaming up with Gucci to create AI smart glasses that blend technology and fashion in a way that appeals to buyers.
As reported by Reuters, Gucci's parent company, Kering, plans to release the glasses in 2027.
Google’s upcoming Android XR glasses, known as “Project Aura,” are scheduled for release this year.
Their design is similar to that of Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, featuring bold, black plastic frames.
This launch marks Google’s renewed attempt at smart glasses, following the earlier attempt with Google Glass, which did not gain traction over ten years ago.
In the previous year, Google revealed partnerships with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to develop glasses.
However, neither brand holds the strong reputation of Gucci. Unlike typical tech gadgets, smart glasses must have aesthetic appeal to succeed.
Collaborating with a luxury brand like Gucci could give Google a competitive edge over the Meta Ray-Ban collection.
Fashion partnerships allow tech companies to brand their glasses differently — as Snap CEO Evan Spiegel commented recently, “the Meta brand, I think, is not something people want anywhere near their face.”
