Netflix adopts vertical video in major mobile app update

Netflix has revealed that a revamped mobile app featuring a vertical video stream will debut at the end of April.

“This update aims to more accurately represent our growing entertainment options and make it easier for users to engage whenever they wish,” the company stated in its Q1 2026 earnings report to stakeholders.

In the correspondence distributed on Thursday, Netflix expressed that the divide between “TV and mobile entertainment is diminishing,” highlighting that video podcasts “are significantly trending” on mobile.

Co-CEO Greg Peters mentioned in January that the company intended to refresh its mobile interface to “better accommodate the growth of our enterprise in the coming years.”

This mobile facelift comes after a major upgrade to Netflix's television app that was introduced last year.

During that announcement, Netflix also indicated that it would begin experimenting with a vertical video feed displaying clips from Netflix content, which viewers could select to watch an entire episode or film.
