  • Russell Brand confirmed he has not spoken to Katy Perry since their 2012 divorce.
  • The comedian took full responsibility for the "strain" he placed on their marriage.
  • Brand maintains a positive relationship with Perry's evangelical parents.

Russell Brand has broken his long-standing silence regarding his relationship with ex-wife Katy Perry during a candid appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show this Wednesday.

The 50-year-old actor and comedian confirmed that he has not been in touch with the "Roar" singer since their highly publicised split in 2012.

Addressing the well-known detail that he informed Perry of his intent to divorce via text message, Brand admitted, "Look, that is true," acknowledging the lack of communication in the fourteen years since their fourteen-month marriage ended.

During the interview, Brand took "total responsibility" for the failure of the relationship, citing his own personal struggles at the time.

"I pushed to get married early because I felt inadequate and insecure and like I wasn't enough," he confessed.

He explained that he believed marrying someone of Perry's stature would make him a "better person and more important," a dynamic that he now realises put her under an "unnecessary amount of pressure and strain."

Despite the distance from his ex-wife, Brand revealed that he remains in contact with her parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, whom he continues to admire for their faith.

The discussion also touched on more current controversies, with Brand expressing "a good deal of sympathy" for Perry following recent legal news.

On 15 April 2026, Australian authorities confirmed an investigation into allegations made by actor Ruby Rose regarding a historical incident in Melbourne.

Brand’s comments come as he promotes his new book, How to Become a Christian in 7 Days, and awaits his own scheduled trial in October.

He noted that his past failed relationships ultimately served as a catalyst for his current marriage to Laura Gallacher and his recent spiritual evolution.
