Julianne Moore to be honored with 2026 Women In Motion Award at Cannes
  • Julianne Moore will be honoured at the official Women In Motion ceremony on May 17.
  • The award celebrates her 40-year career of "destabilising" and nuanced performances.
  • Moore is currently the face of Messika's 2026 "Women in Motion" jewellery campaign.

Julianne Moore is set to receive the prestigious Women In Motion Award at the 79th Festival de Cannes, running from May 12–23, 2026.

The award, presented by Kering and the festival, recognises women who have made significant contributions to the film industry and helped shift the narrative of female representation.

François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, announced that the 65-year-old Oscar winner "fully embodies the spirit of Women In Motion" through her "longstanding dedication to advancing meaningful representation both on and off screen."

Moore’s career has been marked by a series of uncompromising roles that explore the "depth and complexity" of female experiences.

Festival Director Thierry Frémaux described her as "one of the great actresses of contemporary cinema," noting her ability to portray women in all their "strength, contradictions, and freedom."

Moore’s history with Cannes is storied; she previously won the Best Actress prize at the festival in 2014 for Maps to the Stars and most recently appeared in 2023 with Todd Haynes’ May December.

The award ceremony, scheduled for May 17, 2026, will also honour Italian filmmaker Margherita Spampinato with the Emerging Talent Award.

Moore joins an illustrious list of previous honorees, including Donna Langley (2025), Michelle Yeoh (2023), and Viola Davis (2022).

Looking ahead, Moore continues her prolific streak with upcoming projects including Pedro Almodóvar's The Room Next Door and an untitled A24 musical comedy directed by Jesse Eisenberg, where she stars alongside Paul Giamatti and Halle Bailey as a shy woman who loses herself in a community theatre production.
